English feels SO much more comfortable than Polish to write down my current thoughts.
You could sum it all up in one question: Why the heck did Cashmere Mafia get cancelled after seven mere episodes, while Sex and the City kept on going for six seasons?!
In case you do not know (as I haven't, until very recently), CM is a TV show about four women in NYC, produced by no one else but the infamous Darren Star (ring a bell?). The main difference between it and the SatC is that the heroines of CM are a little older, successful, rich and powerful, and tend to talk more about their carrier, their marriages -- or the lack of those -- and their social connections, than simply chatter chirpily about sex. Plus, they're portrayed by such goddesses as Lucy Liu, Bonnie Sommerville (that petite blonde with a helluva voice, singing with Band from TV), and (drumrolls, please) Miranda Otto (so I'm a pervy Eowyn fancier, can you blame me?).
And, seriously, can you blame me for liking it more than SatC? Is it really so bad to grit your teeth when following a story of Mia (Liu) getting dumped by her fiancee, because she got promoted and he didn't? And you know what he said to her? "I'm sorry, I can't pull this through; if I'd won, you could have simply gottten yourself busy with planning the wedding and you wouldn't care, while I, on the other hand, can't cope with this situation..."
Why do men feel threatened by powerful women? Why they so naturally come to the conclusion that a woman wouldn't be as ambitious as a man? And, on the other hand, why did the TV series that brought these questions up got cancelled so soon? Do we -- as the group called 'females' -- enjoy hearing about other females' troubles with having a proper orgasm, far more than we do hearing about how they cope with juggling a carrier, a home, a couple of kids and a (optionally cheating) husband? And, finally, what does that tell us about the equality of rights, or feminism? Maybe we should simply treat those terms as useless, and go back home to cook dinners for our hard-working hubbies?
Over my dead body we should.
(That was me, channeling Carrie Bradshaw. Thanks for reading. Now go, watch Cashmere Mafia).
