[Thirteen, a young, promising doctor, suffering from a disease that will in the end attack her nervous system and reduce her to the form of a human plant, talks to a seriously ill female patient who's been fired by an employer that couldn't wait for her to get out of the hospital. The patient (who considers herself a feminist) doesn't care much about the situation and won't fight for it, so Thirteen yells at her, and gets an answer.]
"[Why don't you do something about it!] We can have anything!"
"No, we can't. We can aspire to anything, but we don't get it just because we want it. And I would rather spend my life close to the birds, than waste it, wishing I had wings."
